ExtendAir CO2 Absorbent
DOLPHIN & OMG AZIMUTH REBREATHERS
Retrofit and load the canister safely in 4 easy steps....
|
|
|
1. Remove the ExtendAir canister from the box. Take one end cap and secure it to either end of the canister by aligning the arrows and rotating clockwise about 1/3 turn. When done correctly the arrow on the cap will point to "locked". |

|
|
2. Inspect the foil seal for breaks between the sealing surface and the container rim. Remove the foil seal by tearing it off of the can, and take out the cartridge. Remove the cartridge from the clear-plastic bag. Inspect the cartridge for damage. Check to make sure that the red plug is securely inserted into one end of the cartridge. As mentioned in the Precautionary Notes (below), this is to prevent air flow through the core.
|
If the foil seal has been opened or the cardboard cylinder is torn or punctured, do not use the cartridge. It may have lost the moisture content necessary to function properly. |

Do not use the cartridge if there is any visible damage to the sides or ends which could cause blockage or leaks. |
|
|
3. Insert the cartridge into the canister. It does not matter which end is inserted; the cartridge will work properly either way. Secure the remaining end cap as in Step 1. |

|
4. Do a pressure check on the canister before installing into the rebreather. Then connect the canister to the rebreather, making sure the hose fittings are connected properly to the inhale and exhale bags. |

The installation is now complete. Continue with the normal pre-dive checks on your rebreather.

IMPORTANT
ExtendAir® CO2 absorbents are a revolutionary new
technology now available for use in SCUBA
rebreathers. The absorbent cartridges solve many
of the problems associated with traditional granular
absorbents. ExtendAir absorbents use the same
chemistry as granular absorbents but they are
formed into sheets that are rolled into easy to use
cartridges. Each cartridge is packaged individually
in a sealed container so you only open it when you
a re ready to use it. The enclosed instructions pert a i n
to the canister and cartridge designed for use in
the Drager Dolphin and OMG Azimuth semi-closed
circuit rebreathers.
Only divers trained in the use of the rebreathers by
an accredited training organization should use this
canister.
ExtendAir cartridges are not a drop in replacement
for granules and there f o re cannot be used in existing
granular canisters. ExtendAir canisters are designed
to be used in conjunction with a specific cartridge.
You must make sure that the cartridge you buy is the
c o rrect part number to be used with your canister.
The ExtendAir canister has been tested in lab
conditions at a breathing rate of 40 liters/minute
and 1 ATM at 55¡F. The resulting duration is longer
than 120 minutes to 1% CO2 at those conditions. As
you know from your rebreather training, canister
duration varies with dive conditions.
It is recommended that you replace the cartridge
on or before dive time reaches 120 minutes.
PRECAUTIONARY NOTES
ExtendAir canisters work differently from granular
canisters in that they are very dependent on
uniform airflow. It is therefore important that the
diver understands the components in the canister.
The end caps have been designed to insure even
flow through each channel in the cartridge. Uniform
airflow through the cartridge insures that the
absorbent is used at an even pace. Anything that
disrupts the flow will shorten the life of the cartridge.
The seals in the end caps prevent breathing gases
from going around the absorbent which would also
shorten the duration. All seals and O-rings in the
end caps should be replaced annually. As with all
O-rings on any rebreather, make sure to properly
lubricate them with O2 compatible lube. A canister
maintenance kit is available.
The ExtendAir CO2 absorbent cartridge comes in an
airtight package. All absorbents must be stored in
airtight packaging to maintain proper moisture
content. For this reason, never use a cartridge if the
packaging has been visibly damaged. If the foil seal
on top of the container has been punctured or torn
do not use that cartridge, as perf o rmance will be
compromised. The core of the cartridge is a hollow
tube with a red plug in it to prevent flow through
the core. Make sure the red core plug is in place
and is not damaged. Prior to loading the cartridge
into the canister, inspect it on both ends to make
sure the channels do not have any obstructions .
Each channel must be clear for proper performance .
