| Micropore has recently completed development of products based on anhydrous lithium hydroxide absorbents for use in submarine CO2 scrubbing systems. | ||||
| Lithium absorbent is used for passive absorption and where cold temperatures are common, such as in submarines. These ExtendAir cartridges have the same cylindrical form as our calcium based products, but are typically larger in diameter and length. With storage space being critical on submarines, ExtendAir cartridges provide over a 30% increase in absorbent weight per given storage volume over lithium granules. What this means to the submarine crew is increased emergency life support duration without sacrificing the limited space available. | ||||
| Micropores approach improves both active mode (forced air) and passive mode (hanging curtain) durations with minimal modifications to the existing scrubbers. In addition to duration improvements, the lithium ExtendAir cartridges have substantially less powdering associated with handling and can be deployed for passive absorption without significant risk of breathing lithium hydroxide powder.
