Rebreathers for fire safety
Rebreathers are used in mine safety, fire fighting, and general industrial safety. Mine safety is actually one of the first uses for rebreathing equipment dating back to the late 18th century. The equipment is essentially the same in each case, with full facemasks connected to the breathing loops and CO2 canisters.
The advantages of rebreathers in these applications are much the same as those experienced in diving. In particular, rebreathers extend the life of the air supply without any weight penalty. Most open circuit air packs last anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour, while rebreathers are good for 1 or 2 hours minimum. This added duration is critical in situations such as fires in large buildings, where the added time is needed to safely and thoroughly access the building. Also, if the user encounters unexpected problems, the rebreather extends the time long enough to get out safely, or be reached by rescuers.

As in other rebreather applications, ExtendAir technology can improve the performance of the system to allow it to be as small and light as possible.  All of the advantages to the end user, such as:

- single use packaging
- no powdering
- ease of use
